About Us

SFT Horsemanship was founded by owner Amanda Shelton in 2013. Her vision is to provide exceptional care and training services to horses and their riders. In 2015 she joined the horse care team at J + B Arabians of Perry, MI.

SFT Horsemanship now calls J + B Arabians its home. The facility is located on 80+ acres of beautiful rolling farm land. The barn holds 10 large matted stalls. A few of the stalls have attached private turnouts with dutch doors. Also within the barn is tack storage space, grooming stall, wash stall, and club room (heater, AC, WiFi, TV). Attached to the stall barn is a very well lit 60'x120' indoor arena with wonderful soft sand footing. Horses are turned out daily in one of 10 grassy pastures fenced with electric poly tape. Trails crisscross the crop land and wooded portions of the property, also there are miles and miles of dirt roads to explore. To learn more about our facility please see our boarding and training pages.

Amanda Shelton

Amanda started her riding career at a young age. She grew up riding at some of southeast Michigan's most prestigious hunter/jumper barns. She competed in local circuit and schooling shows. While attending Walled Lake Central High School she competed on the equestrian team winning points in a wide variety of events including western horsemanship, showmanship, trail, jumping, gymkhana, and saddle seat. She continued her riding education at the collegiate level by attending the University of Findlay's western training and instruction program. Amanda attended UF from 2008 to 2010, participating and competing on the JV IHSA team. The lessons learned during her time at Findlay have shaped much of her current teaching and training program.

Amanda has been teaching and training for the public since 2008. With nearly a decade of experience in the industry as a professional she has developed a solid approach to horse care and training that is both simple and complete. She has a way of looking at the whole picture and seeing issues before they arise.
